Only 29 units of this type were built – making it the rarest (freely saleable) series vehicle from Daimler-Benz of the post-war era!

Such a specimen only comes to market every 5-10 years – a must for any high-quality Mercedes collection!

This example comes from (successively) 2 significant East Westphalian collections and was only driven to major classic car events and club meetings – hence the condition is still exemplary, although the restoration was done several years ago.

History: The Mercedes 220 Coupé (W187.023) was built in small quantities by hand from late 1953 to mid-1955. In terms of elegance and craftsmanship, it was on par with its big brother, the 300S Coupé – top of the world!
Apart from the truly successful roof design, it is also the stunningly beautiful interior that fascinates enormously – consisting almost entirely of fine leather and the noblest woods.
Fortunately, only authentic materials were used for the restoration, so that the authentic quality impression that the vehicle exudes was preserved!

Unfortunately, at that time, the price of DM 20,850 (almost twice that of the 220 W187 limousine!) was so high that only 85 vehicles could be sold.

In the last year of production, 1955, the model received an aesthetic and technical facelift – it was fitted with a 5 HP more powerful engine from the newly introduced Ponton 220, along with a 12V electrical system, a curved windshield, and vent windows in the doors.

Only 29 units of this last 1955 model were produced – due to this extremeRarely mentioned in any Mercedes model catalog!

This very last model marks the culmination of an era, as the MB 220 W187 series was the last of the mid-size chassis vehicles and was stylistically still based on the stunning pre-war streamline design of the 1939-42 built MB 230 W153.

Details: 2.2L 6-cylinder OHC inline engine, 85 HP at 4,800 RPM, fully synchronized 4-speed transmission with steering wheel gear shift, WV impression central lubrication, rear swinging axle. Full leather interior with reclining seats, fine wood trims, original radio "Becker Mexico". Top speed 150 km/h, weight 1,440 kg.
