BMW: German perfection from Bavaria
BMW is one of the most respected German manufacturers that the market has to offer. The Bavarian Motor Works are located in beautiful Munich, the capital of southern Germany, so to speak their headquarters. The company was founded in 1916 as the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke (BFW). In the beginning, aircraft engines were manufactured in this way, and BMW was already very successful here. When aircraft construction was banned in Germany after the First World War due to the Treaty of Versailles, the visionaries Karl Rapp structured and Gustav Otto the company to Bayerische Motorenwerke. After hardly any buyers for boat and truck engines, BMW specialized in engines for motorcycles.
How it came to today's size
BMW first had to find the switch to automobiles. The first specially developed BMW is called 3/20. The "3" stands as a code number for the model, the "20" indicates the number of horsepower, which was impressive for that time. Up until the Second World War, BMW was now able to produce a decent amount of cars and ensure a good image, with the Second World War severely damaging the film grounds and causing setbacks. New breakthroughs came with the BMW 501, which was also called the Baroque Angel. The first V8 engine was given to the BMW 502, the sister model to the variant already mentioned. The Isetta, which represented a cross between motorcycle and automobile, ensured more financial upswing in the Bavarian engine works.
By the end of the 1960s, BMW had built up the product range as it is largely known today. A complete 5-series was given from then on, the basic building blocks of which have continued to this day. The 3 series had more than 30 models, the 7 series also provided luxury cars at BMW.
