Austin

Austin: Old-style British cars

This traditional, long-established British vehicle manufacturer was founded over 100 years ago. The company was most recently known as the Austin Motor Company and it stands for the tradition of automotive art in Great Britain. At the beginning of its career, this company was known for luxury four-seater cars, which could also be powerful cars for the racetrack. At the beginning of the 1920s, small cars were added to the range, making this manufacturer one of the first. A very eventful history with many owners has made Austin the legend that it carries today.

Different owners, always new top products

Austin models have always been pretty sporty. After a merger to form British Leyland, the company was at its peak in the eyes of most. Through further collaboration with other manufacturers, sports cars could be produced, which are now under the brand name Austin-Healey distributed among collectors.

Austin was one of the pioneers in small cars, which is why with their Mini model this tradition continued almost to the end of the company. With the company called Rover Shortly before the end of his lifetime, compact cars emerged that still delight many fans today. The small cars were not always famous for their success. The Austin baby has made for difficult days in the company. It wasn't until British Leyland that a new small car was brought out, the Mini called and from here took the company in a storm for itself. The Mini Countryman came as a station wagon out, which still counts as a true specialty today. The Austin Mini Cooper and the Austin Mini Moke represent further variants of this model, which are popular and gladly seen among connoisseurs.

How did it end?

Other models that shaped the weddings of this company were, for example, the Austin Maxi, which should stand in clear contrast to the Mini. The Austin Allegro is another model that has a comparatively large amount of space. The Austin Maestro was one of the last models from this manufacturer, the middle class model Austin A110 could be procured for an affordable price even then. A typical sports car from the manufacturer is called the Austin Healey Sprite. Ultimately, the downfall was caused by a loss of quality that resulted from the merger with British Leyland. In 1994 the last Austin rolled off the production line until the company could no longer be run profitably.
