Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupé (996) – time works in its favor.
There was a time when the Porsche 996 had to endure quite a bit at the local pub table. Water instead of air, new headlights, new technology – and overall: everything was better in the past.
Today, more than two decades after its production ended, the former critics are increasingly becoming interested buyers. Some take a little longer to realize what they are looking at. Our Carrera 2 Coupé of the first 996 generation, first registered in July 1999, is a convincing argument for this change of perception.
Arctic-silver metallic, black leather, 300 HP, and just 47,100 original kilometers. Also accident-free and with a completely documented history from the beginning. The 996 was much more than a new face for the 911. It was a decisive step into modernity and played a significant role in restoring Porsche's financial stability.
Compared to its predecessor, the 993, it offered more power, higher driving precision, more space, better everyday usability, and a more efficient engine. It accelerated better, cooled better, and consumed less. The list could go on.
Its status as one of the most compact and visually slender of the modern 911 generations makes its appeal even clearer today.
Driving instead of debating.
Our Carrera features the five-speed Tiptronic S with controls on the steering wheel. A decision that now seems particularly sensible. Of course, a manual 911 might win a few tenths of a second under optimal test conditions. (Side note - over the decades, we have met many Porsche drivers. However, among them only)few who can optimally accelerate a hand-shifted Porsche...) In real life, the automatic transmission mainly brings serenity.
Get in, drive off, enjoy. The left foot is on vacation, the right hand remains free, and no one has to prove at every traffic light that they have passed the sports driver test. Those who wish can intervene via the steering wheel buttons. Those who prefer not to can leave the work to the technology. Both are allowed. The Tiptronic does not make the Carrera any less convincing as a Porsche. It makes it a sports car that can also be driven relaxed in everyday life. Not every kilometer has to be a special test.
The condition of the Porsche is self-explanatory and answers all open questions! Thirteen verifiable inspections in 26 years speak for meticulous care. The complete documentation is available, and this coupe has never experienced winter operation. The underbody confirms careful handling. The engine, transmission, brakes, axles, and suspensions are in a remarkably well-maintained condition. Low mileage alone does not make a good car. Only the combination of a comprehensible history, regular maintenance, and convincing substance creates a total picture that deserves trust.
Everything simply fits together with this Porsche.
The equipment includes, among other things, Litronic headlights with headlight cleaning system, automatic climate control, anti-slip regulation, automatic brake differential, Tiptronic S with steering wheel control, Harman sound package, 17-inch alloy wheels with 225 front and 255 rear tires, rear window wiper, stronger battery, and Porsche Classic Communication Management (PCCM Classic). An eleven thatnothing to prove.
The prices of good 996 models have developed significantly in recent years. Increasingly, it is recognized that this generation offers an exceptional amount of Porsche for the money – and that especially early examples with their clear design language possess a very own charm. Our Carrera 2 stands out due to its low original mileage, the complete history, and its exceptional preservation state. If you are looking for a 911 that doesn't need extensive restoration but can be enjoyed immediately, you should take a closer look at this car.
Sometimes, a classic just needs enough time. This one has used that time to become one.
With best regards
