For sale is an early Zenith El Primero, reference SP 1301 – one of the first automatic chronograph models of the legendary El Primero family and part of the original series around 1969–1971. The distinctive tonneau case with its angular facets and pump pushers is characteristic of these early references.
Special feature: rare early dial version
This example bears the early, significantly rarer inscription "Zenith Chronometre" – without the later introduced inscription "El Primero". This version comes from a very early production phase and is hardly found on the market compared to the more well-known, later labeled variants.
Dial & Design
Silver-blue dial, Tricompax layout with 30-minute and hour counters as well as small seconds, outer tachymeter scale, distinctive orange chronograph central seconds hand, applied gold-colored baton indices.
Movement
Automatic caliber El Primero 3019 PHC, 31 jewels, column wheel control, 36,000 A/h. Case back signed with reference "SP 1301", "Acier Inoxydable / Swiss Made".
Condition & Service
The watch has been professionally fully serviced for around €2,000 – a service that can only be performed with care by a few specialized watchmakers, especially for this early, complex El Primero caliber. Chronograph runs flawlessly, start/stop/reset work reliably. New crocodile leather strap (not original Zenith) as well as an original Zenith crocodile strap with folding clasp.
