For sale is the sturdy and fast aluminum lifting-keel cruiser VIRGIN LUCIA in immaculate condition
The Van de Stadt 56 VIRGIN LUCIA has been in the careful hands of her second German owner since 2003 and is a fine example of a well-maintained aluminium lifting-keel cruiser.
Originally launched for safe and fast passagemaking, VIRGIN LUCIA has proven herself in a range of conditions and is designed for comfortable cruising. Between 2015 and 2018 she underwent an extensive refit, and has only been lightly sailed since then. She has been regularly maintained and remains in good condition. We have personally inspected her and can confirm she is ready for her next voyage.
On deck, her layout is straightforward and practical, with a protected cockpit featuring twin helm stations, a fixed dodger, and an attached bimini to keep the crew sheltered. Sail handling is efficient, with just two hydraulic Lewmar winches and all lines led aft to the cockpit — making her manageable for a small crew.
Her sloop rig with aluminium mast, swept-back spreaders, and optional running backstays carries 164 m² upwind. The Genoa runs on a hydraulic Reckmann furler, and the mainsail stows easily in a carbon V-Boom. Her ESTHEC deck, renewed in 2015, remains easy to look after. Manoeuvring in harbour is assisted by a hydraulic bow thruster.
A key feature is her hydraulic lifting keel, allowing a draft between 1.60 m and 3.00 m — ideal for exploring shallow anchorages without compromising offshore performance.
Below deck, VIRGIN LUCIA offers a practical and comfortable interior layout for extended cruising. There are three cabins for up to seven guests, with two heads. The owner’s cabin forward has a double berth to port and a single to starboard, providing good options for sleeping while on passage. Forward is a private head with separate shower.
Aft, there is a double cabin to starboard with direct access to the day head, and a bunk cabin to port with its own washbasin. The saloon and galley are arranged for safe and comfortable living at sea.
In the forecastle is a sail locker with access to the bow thruster and chain locker.
Technically, she is well equipped for independent cruising, including diesel heating, air conditioning, water maker, generator, inverter, and updated B&G navigation electronics.
VIRGIN LUCIA represents a reliable and capable option for those looking for a proven aluminium cruiser with lifting keel, ready to sail to new destinations.
The EU VAT has been paid.
