General Overview

“Kemah” is an aft pilothouse model of the Nordhavn 76 that includes the bulbous bow and extended swim step. The interior space includes living/operational spaces among three decks, plus a flybridge. The salon, galley, and primary stateroom are located on the main deck. Two guest cabins, laundry and engine room access are on the lower deck. The pilothouse and “captain’s cabin” are on the upper deck. The interior of the main deck is asymmetrical, with the salon extending full beam to port, and the starboard side extending to the starboard side deck with its high bulwark. The resultant layout takes full advantage of the hull volume of the yacht.

“Kemah” is one of two asymmetrical 76s with a “porch’ deck access on the port side.

Throughout their history the “76s” have been all over the world’s oceans, including the Southern Ocean, while cruising Antarctica. Her standard fuel capacity allows approximately 3,500 nautical miles of cruising range. The bulbous bow adds to cruising efficiency and as well as positioning the bow thruster further forward for maximum effect when close-in maneuvering. With her full hydraulic system and a bit of practice, “Kemah” can be easily handled by two people.

With her fuel capacity, hydronic heating system, water making, power generation, and multi-deck guest cabin layout, “Kemah” is well-suited to “all-latitude” cruising and can be self-sufficient for an extended period of time.

Broker’s Comments

“Kemah’s” owner has set a comprehensive standard for yacht care and maintenance. Under her current ownership that care includes a history of haul-outs at six-month intervals at Philbrook’s Boat Yard in Sidney BC, as well as the regular attention of one of the best boatwrights that this broker has known.

Maintenance generally recognized as annual has been completed as of this listing.

“Kemah” comes to the market as the owner looks forward to a new, larger, Nordhavn project as the focus of his attention.

INTERIOR

General

The interior is designed with functional flexibility - there are sleeping, dining, and operational options throughout. Sleeping accommodations include three staterooms plus a “captain’s cabin” with head and shower in the pilothouse. Operation of the vessel can be done from the pilothouse, port and starboard Portuguese bridge wing stations, or from the flybridge. Meals can be taken from the galley, cockpit, pilothouse, dining area, or flybridge.

General and engine room sound attenuation measures are incorporated throughout the interior adding to the level of comfort underway. The details include multiple layers of material surrounding the engine room and insulated cabin bulkheads.

Main Salon and Galley

Enter the salon from the aft cockpit through a molded fiberglass door with upper and lower glass panels. All exterior doors are constructed of molded fiberglass to eliminate any corrosion issues related to coated metal doors. All exterior doors are fitted with “phantom” roller screens. All exterior windows are frameless glass, bonded into the hull topsides or superstructure, eliminating any corrosion potential.

With 6' 10" headroom generally throughout the interior, the feeling is quite open.

The salon extends forward to join the galley counter with its three swivel chairs. To starboard a lounge area is furnished with a plush L-shaped sofa, Ekornes recliner chair, custom made coffee table and storage lockers. The interior cabin sides are finished in varnished horizontal-grain teak wainscoting, with light colored wall coverings above. The lounge area also affords comfortable viewing of the TV screen mounted in a lift in the port side cabinetry.

Also to port is a custom dining table with six armchairs constructed of gloss-finished charco wood.

To starboard near the galley counter, a divider cabinet includes the main electrical panels, which are conveniently located for easy system controls and information, including the generator panels.

Large windows on both sides of the salon provide plenty of interior light and nice sight lines underway. In the evening, zone lighting provides comfortable light levels to suit the use of space.

The galley has an easy social connection to the lounge and dining area, and the counter is well-suited to quick meals.

The galley is equipped with a dishwasher, double bowl stainless steel sink, two GE Monogram refrigerators with two freezer drawers each, an electric glass cooktop and microwave. There are two additional freezers in the utility room on the lower deck.

An optional galley window has been provided over the outboard (starboard) side of the galley.

To port across from the galley is a day head (half bath).

Staterooms

Outboard of the galley to port are some shallow steps leading forward to the full beam primary stateroom. The primary stateroom has a king bed with upholstered headboard, and enough storage space for a circumnavigation. Six large portlights and two deck hatches provide plenty of natural light.

Just forward is the bath with shower and granite topped vanity with twin apron sinks, and a toilet room.

Forward to starboard is a walk-in closet.

Port and Starboard Lower Guest Cabins

Access to the lower guest cabins is via the spiral staircase opposite the galley, leading to the lower deck with two guest cabins, laundry/utility room with two additional freezers, and access to the engine room.

Starboard Lower Guest Cabin

The starboard lower guest cabin includes a walk around queen bed with upholstered headboard, lots of storage, and bath ensuite.

Port Lower Guest Cabin

The port lower guest cabin includes a queen bed, upholstered headboard and bath ensuite as well.

Up to Pilothouse

The pilothouse is well suited to spend a considerable amount of time in it. There are two Stidd helm chairs for the operational seating, but there is also raised seating at the dinette tables for when mealtimes come around for the crew underway. The dinette seating is raised with great sightlines for any off-watch crew members to catch up on communication or dine.

Crew Cabin

A bulkhead aft of the settee in the pilothouse separates the “captain/crew” cabin from the active areas of the pilothouse. There is a head with shower adjoining it as well.

A set of stairs aft and to port provides interior access to the flybridge.

Engine Room

Aft of the lower deck landing is the entrance to the utility room with laundry appliances and the entrance to the engine room. The dimensions of the engine room allow easy access to the maintenance points on the main engine, wing engine, primary generator, stainless steel topped work bench with mounted vise, tool and spare parts storage, and fuel system. There is also access to and from the lazarette aft.

Nordhavn Fuel System

The Nordhavn fuel system consists of five fiberglass fuel tanks constructed of vinylester resin for lifetime durability. The tanks are interconnected via a manifold system providing broad flexibility for managing fuel distribution to the main engine, wing engine and generators. The flexibility of the system allows discretion for the operator in handling the fuel for vessel trim, handling contaminated fuel, and measuring fuel consumption. The construction of the tanks ensures that there will not be corrosion issues over the life of the boat. In addition, each tank has a man-sized inspection port and removable baffles to allow access to the interior of the tanks for cleaning.

Should fuel become contaminated, or if contaminated fuel is taken on from the shore, the system provides a means of pre-filtering and polishing fuel before sending it to the engines.

Lazarette

The lazarette is accessed through the aft engine room door or through the cockpit deck hatch.

EXTERIOR

On Deck

The main deck is configured with a large aft cockpit, dining table and access to the extended swim step through port and starboard transom doors. Forward in the cockpit are two electric Miele grills, and a set of steps leading up to the pilothouse aft deck. The step structure includes a storage locker for maintenance supplies.

The deck aft of the pilothouse, which extends over the cockpit has been extended by six and a half feet for more lounging area and cockpit coverage.

To starboard a side deck with a high bulwark leads forward to a side boarding door. Although the interior extends out to the port rail, there is an inset boarding deck with a door opening into the forward salon/galley designed to be a convenient landing point for loading groceries and supplies.

The foredeck is accessible via the starboard side deck or from either the main deck, or pilothouse deck level via the Portuguese bridge forward door. There are port and starboard wing control stations on the Portuguese bridge, each with main engine start-stop control, throttle/shift control, thruster controls, autopilot follow-up lever for rudder control, and horn button. The visibility from the wing stations makes them a perfect place for docking, departing, or close-in maneuvering.

The Portuguese bridge also has locker space for mooring lines and other deck gear.

The foredeck has room for two tenders plus other water toys, plus a deck storage box fitted neatly under the davit in its stowed position. All the way forward on the foredeck, the ground tackle area is defined by a low bulwark with drains to the waterline to contain any debris that may come aboard while handling the ground tackle. Two Maxwell 4500 windlasses with band brakes make handling the two 400' of ½" hi-test chain anchor rodes and 300 lb. stainless steel anchors a straightforward process. A stainless steel bow eye at the water line provide a tether point for an anchor bridle. There is a stainless steel saltwater anchor wash nozzle beneath each of the two anchor roller channels. The pump output for the system is approximately 180 gallons/minute.

Access to the flybridge is from the interior stairs of the pilothouse, from the main cockpit on the lower deck, and from the walkways and stairs of the pilothouse deck. The flybridge is a great place to run the boat. A full set of controls and an electronics package make it a great perch for operation, particularly when entering an unfamiliar harbor, narrow passage, or simply enjoying the day. “Kemah” has a fiberglass hard top equipped with a beautifully made enclosure creating an environment suitable for all seasons use. There are two helm chairs, and a beautiful varnished teak table with seating for six. For electronics component maintenance “Kemah” has a custom-made set of steps leading up to the hardtop.

Deck Equipment

  • 2ea. Maxwell 4500 hydraulic windlasses (model # VWC 4500) fitted with band brakes and deck mounted chain stoppers. Windlasses are operational from deck foot switches, controls in pilothouse, controls on flybridge and controls in foredeck storage locker
