Packard: The classic cars par excellence

Packard is an American automobile manufacturer that is only known today through classic cars. In 1954 the company was dissolved, after which hardly any models worth mentioning were created. Models of this company were typically raised large and expensive, which is why they were driven by heads of state, businessmen and also the gangsters of the time.

A look into the past

The first Packard model came out in 1899, and today you can probably only see it in museums. The Packard Model C, which was manufactured in 1901, is also extremely classic. The Twin Six, which was equipped with a V12 engine and thus represented the first car model to have such a unit in series, made big waves. Packard has always shown itself to be revolutionary, in addition to the introduction of the gate shift, it was this company that was the first to pack an air conditioning system into a production car.

In 1554 the company was dissolved through a merger with Studebaker. Shortly after the merger, the last vehicle ever rolled off the assembly line in 1955.

Well-known Packard models

Anyone who walks through the streets in a Packard seems like something out of a movie from decades ago. Fortunately, there is a wide range of models that are still very well preserved. These include, for example, the old-timer Packard Clipper, which stands for the car brand as standard. The Packard Deluxe 8 Touring Sedan or the Packard Deluxe 200 Sedan are also great models.

The Packard Eight from 1949 has a timeless design. In the eyes of many, the Packard Coupé 400 V8 is a pompous vehicle. Launched in 1955, the V8 unit at the time had already produced almost 260 hp. The Packard Eight Saloon 1938 comes with a lot more style, but with less horsepower.

As you can see from the models, there are many Packard models that are still performing at their best today. It is particularly gratifying that many models have eight or more pistons in the engine, which are still in excellent condition, which is why the large-engined Packards will survive for a long time.

Prominent visit to the Packard

Packards were ridden by celebrities in the old days. A very prominent visit to one of these vehicles was Charlie Chaplin, who drove a 1936 Packard Twelve 1407 All Weather Cabriolet.
